Dishsplit has no accounts. A bill lives on our server and everyone with its link can see it: the receipt and its photos, the names people type, what each person ticked and paid, and the payer's payment details. This browser remembers who you are on each bill. We count page views and errors, never names, items, amounts or links.
Dishsplit splits a restaurant bill. Whoever paid has the receipt loaded as a bill, with its photos, and sends the table a link. A bill is kept on our server so everyone at the table can use it from their own phone: the receipt as loaded, the photos, the names people type or the payer lists, which items each person ticked and their part of each, payment status and the amount each person says they sent, the payer's payment details exactly as typed, suggested fixes and clashes, and a record of who did what. Everyone with the bill's link sees all of it. No account, email or IP address is stored with a bill. Page views (as a route pattern, never a bill's link) and errors go to Lotl Observe, which we operate.
What we collect
Here is everything that leaves your browser, and what stays in it:
- Bills, kept on our server: Everything a bill needs so the table can split it: the receipt as loaded (venue, date, items, prices, charges and the printed total), the receipt photos, the names people type or the payer lists up front, which items each person ticked and their part of each, payment status and the amount each person says they sent, the payer's payment details (each way to pay them: for a bank account the BSB or sort code, account number and account name; for PayID the PayID and account name; for an IBAN the IBAN, BIC and account name; for PayPal, Monzo, Revolut or Wise their username; or free text), when those details last changed, suggested receipt fixes with any note, clashes, and the activity record of who did what on the bill. Everyone with the bill's link can see all of it. No account, email or IP address is stored with a bill. Bills are kept until deleted: email hello@lotlsoft.com with the bill's link to have one deleted; automatic expiry is planned but not built yet.
- Your place on a bill, kept in this browser: Per bill, in localStorage (keys starting dishsplit:<bill>:): which person you are on it, the payer's key if this is the payer's link, items you ticked before giving a name, whether you chose to hide paid items or group by person, and which version of the payer's payment details you were last shown (dishsplit:<bill>:payVersion), so you can be warned if they change. Your theme choice (dishsplit.theme) and a tab-only reload flag (dishsplit.reloaded, sessionStorage) are stored the same way. None of it is sent anywhere except the payer's key, which goes to our server with each change so it knows the payer is asking.
- Usage telemetry: Page views, reported as the route pattern (/ or /b/:id, never the bill's id), and errors the app throws. Sent to Lotl Observe. Never a name, an item, an amount, payment details or a bill's link.
Where your data is stored
Bills and telemetry are stored on Lotlsoft's own servers.
Your rights
There is no account to tie a bill to you. To have a bill deleted, email hello@lotlsoft.com with its link. What this browser remembers about a bill is deleted when you clear this site's data. Telemetry counts are not linked to you.
